1.IntroductionIn pollution deaths are equal to deaths

the past few decades, we have dealed with the shortage of energy because of the
economic development (Cheng, Du, Wang, Niu & Zhing, 2016). Energy-saving
and environmental protection have become, therefore, a serious concern. It is
undeniable that the development and progress human society depend on the energy
consumption, and lighting is a major contributor to global energy consumption
and pollution because it is being used indiscriminately. Consequently,
environmentalists tried to propose practical measures which aim at fading the
amount of consumed-energy, and  China’s
new construction and renovation project was proposed. It is “green lighting
project”, which considers as one of ten effective projects in energy saving
(Cheng et al., 2016). The standard model suggests that “green lighting” can be
defined as consist of four elements: energy saving, environmental protection,
safety and comfort (Cheng et al.,2016). Using green lighting is expected to
bring about positive effects. Thus, this paper, based on secondary data, is
implemented to provide information about effects of using green lighting and
general tips to save lighting.2. Discussion of
findings2.1 Background information
about green lighting:As
Cheng et al. reported: ” The concept of green lighting was proposed by the
national environmental protection agency in early 1990s” (2016, p.1). The
meaning of this term consists of four elements: energy saving, environmental
protection, safety and comfort (Cheng et al., 2016). These elements refer to
the limit of electricity consumption, achieving the purpose environmental
protection and the harmless light without contaminants (Cheng et al., 2016).
Therefore, these factors will more and more contribute to healthier and safer
is no deny that using green lighting has bring substantial economic benefits as
well as enviromental protection. In 2014, Ganandran, Mahlia, Ong, Rismanchi and
Chong conducted a study which showed that around 20% to 30% of the electricity
consumption is used for lighting. However, lighting is one of reasons burning
fossil fuels. Therefore, this exerts an tremendous impact on pollution
environment. Howard, Brinsky and Leiman (2011) stated that according to World
Health Organization, air pollution caused deaths for three million people
around the world, and they also says, “U.S. air pollution deaths are equal to
deaths from breast cancer and prostate cancer combined” (2011, p. 17).
Apparently, this is a hazardous warning for us if this situation is continuing
downward. Thus, with such statistics, researchers have given feasible solutions
for lighting like replacing incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent
lighting (CFLs) or LEDs lighting-one of the most advanced lighting technology.
Howard et al. (2011) claimed that by replacing just one incandescent bulb with
a CFLs, more than three million homes have enough energy to light, and it also
limites greenhouse gas
emissions equivalent to that of 800,000 cars. It can be seen that the economic
efficiency are considerable, and environmental protection problem is solved
respectively.2.2 Possible effects of
using green lightingGanandran
et al. in their 2014 study
emphasized that in fact, to meet the needs of the economic development, the
usage of electricity has increased rapidly in these days. Thus, one of the
effective options is to use green lighting like energy efficient electrical
appliances which provide numerous benifits. Nevertheless, LEDs  is one of the common options that people are
used for lighting. As Karmakar, Das and Ghosh say, “LED lighting is one
possible wave of the future” (2016).The
direct and most typical effects of using green lighting is that worker
productivity increased rapidly thanks to efficient lighting. It is said that
changing inside environmental conditions has created $20 billion to $160
billion from greater workforce productivity (Howard et al., 2011). A study by Howard
et al. (2011) also
pointed out that installing an efficient lighting system has brought  significant influences. Using long-lasting
bulbs in lighting had increased by more than eight percent within 40 weeks. It is perhaps not surprising that “These benefits also
extend to schools” (Howard et al., 2011). A study was conducted by Capital E
review concluded that students had improved better results thanks to healthier
and comfortable study and learning environments (Capital E review, 2006, as
cited in Howard et al., 2011).Additionally, the
second effect given by Howard et al. (2011) is that the usage of good lighting equipment diminishes energy consumption as well as
improve visual acuity-the ability to see details well. In 2017, Fox pointed
that energy saving of about 50 billion kilowatt-hours per year was equivalent to
the decline in consumption of residents. Howard et al. investigated that with
light quality, intensity, and color advancements, lighting improved health
problems such as worker eye strain, vision-related errors, and even absenteeism
(2011). Last but not least, it is undeniable that using green lighting also
boosted sales when well-lit stores have more opportunities than dim shops. In
order to catch the eyes of shoppers and move more units, stores had adjustedsuitable
levels of light as well as colors thanks
to light technology. This has affected the psychology of buyers. Lighting can accent exterior landmarks and
valuables for day and night viewing. It can provide blankets of safety to dimly
lit areas.2.3 General
tips for more effective lighting. The change in lighting technology has
brought about practical benefits. However, we also need to understand the
useful ways to maximize comfort and productivity, as well as energy savings, in
your home or business. The first and most significant method that
savesighting energy is to reduce the length of used time. However, as Howard et
al. (2011, p. 156) say, “the actual cost-effectiveness of when to turn off
lights depends on a number of factors, chiefly the type of light and price of
electricity”. This is also true as every single light bulb has a different
power consumption.Turning off incandescent lights is essential because of the
ineffectiveness of this kind of light with “90% of the energy they use is given off as
heat, and only about 10% results in light” (Energy,n.d.). For halogen lights, they also
like incandescent lights technology. Therefore, they should also be turned off
when not in use. LEDs or also called light emitting diode, is one of the best
light energy saving options due to its characteristic: not affected at all by
being turned on and off (Constellation
energy resources,
2018). Furthermore,
another  way to save
energy is by no means less effective is that we should avoid overlighting.
Overlighting is lighting where the light levels are considerably higher than
those that are required by lighting recommendations or lighting standards.
Therefore, it is also one of the reasons causing  significant effects
to both our environment and health.
According to Howard et al. (2011), using too much lighting results in energy
wastage, even uncomfortable to room occupants. Overlighting not only causes excessive glare, but it
also can distract the tasks. Additionally, the
effect given by Bijli Bachao Team is that apart from causing environmental
consequences, excessive lighting also bring about bad effects for your health. Both
natural and artificial lighting can also disrupt the human body clock and the
hormone system, and this can cause health problems. The ultraviolet and blue
components of light have the greatest potential for harm.Last but not least, we
should choose the right light for the job. This is a great thing because it affects the outcome of
that job. It is a truth that artists and crafters have known for a long time
how to get the best out of full-spectrum and high-CRI lights to help them
observe better the colors and details (Howard et al. 2011). That explains the
paint mixers better see “true color” of the pigments when they often work under
full-spectrum lights (Howard et al., 2011). Another example shows the effect of choosing
rightlight. Reptiles will be healthier if their caretakers know how to take
full advantage of lamps which are formulated to more accurately replicate
natural environments (Howard et al., 2011).3.Conclusion

The above analysis has shown that
emerging green lighting technologies offer considerable
promise to decrease energy use further, increase sustainability, and bring illumination
to millions of people around the world who currently lack it. We can get the
best out of more efficient technologies such as fluorescents, LEDs, and more,
and pair these with better fixtures, sensors, and controls. We can learn to
light everything smarter, increasing comfort, beauty, and productivity while
trimming waste. For green lighting, the future is very bright. And by making a
few relatively simple changes now, we can start seeing the benefits
