A STUDY ON COMPUTER ANIMATION KNOWLEDGE OF SMKKP STUDENTS BY: MUHAMMAD SYAMER BIN MOHD DAUD CLASS: PRE U 2B/2012 SUPERVISOR: MDM SITI HAJAR BINTI SAID Introduction Computer animation is a process used for generating animated images (moving images) by using computer graphics. Animation is the rapid display of a sequence of images of 2-D artwork or model positions in order to create an illusion of movement. It is an optical illusion of motion due to the phenomenon of persistence of vision, and can be created and demonstrated in a number of ways. The most common method of presenting animation is as a motion picture or video.
Results A study on animation knowledge of the lower six students at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kubur Panjang was held on 9th September 2011. I choose to do a research about animation because it has become a hot topic or significance to all students. In my opinion, animation is the most interesting topic that I have studied. In order to make sure my research about animation is perfect, I have done a survey to 20 lower six students at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kubur Panjang by asking them 10 questions each. The survey questions were distributed to both genders.
The main objective that I do this survey is to know their knowledge level on animation. The results of the study are presented in the form of pie charts. The first pie chart shows that 90% of the lower six students in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kubur Panjang (SMKKP) have the knowledge and know about animation. Only 10% of them do not know about animation. Out of the 90% of students that have the knowledge about animation, 60% of them know about animation since they were 11 to 12 years old, 25% of them know about animation since their age of 13 to 15 years old. Only 10% know about animation when their ages reach 16 to 18 years old.
It is clearly shown in the second pie chart. The percentage of the lower six students in SMKKP who knows about the types of animation is shown in the third pie chart. Only 30% of them believe that there are only two types of animation. Another 70% students believe that there are more than three types. The survey also found that more than half of them do not know the usage of the animation. It can be proven when 65% of them do not know the usage of animation in our country. It means that only 35% of them know the usage of animation. The result is shown in the fourth pie chart.
In the fifth pie chart, the survey found that almost all of them have a good opinion on animation when 85% of the lower six students in SMKKP give a good responses on animation while another 15% do not give a good opinion to animation. The lower six students of SMKKP also know the type of animation that is used in film or television, when all of them can give an example of movies that use animation techniques. It is shown in the sixth pie chart when 40% of them know that the Upin & Ipin Series used animation techniques, 10% stat Boboiboy and another 50% give examples of other films.
Based on the 7th pie chart, the students once again give a positive response when almost all of them show an interest in animation. 95% of them have an interest in animation and another 5% do not show any interest in animation. In the 8th pie chart, the lower six students of SMKKP prefer to choose watching animation stories at home with the percentage of 60%. They put cinema as their second option with 30%. 10% of them prefer to choose other venue to watch animation movies. The 9th pie chart clearly shows that the lower six students of SMKKP know the type of animation and it’s usage in the movies.
It can be proven that almost all students know about animation (90%). However, not all of them know the history of animation. This is because 55% of them do not know the first country that uses animation in their movies. 30% of them prefer to choose Japan as the first country that used animation in their movies and 15% choose United States of America as the first country that used the animation techniques in their movies. Conclusion In conclusion, there is a large majority of the lower six students of SMKKP who have the knowledge on computer animation (90%).
Although 55% of them do not know about the animation history, they truly know about the usage of animation in daily life especially in the entertainment field. Computer animation engineer can be a very promising career in this era of advance information, communication and computer technology.
