Creation of formal non-
agricultural jobs may not happen in the short run as much as job creation in
agriculture which continues to be a major source of employment and livelihood in
SSA and Nigeria. Agricultural education has the potential of solving the
unemployment of the youth through agricultural productivity. Higher education
advances the efficiency in the use of technology and facilitates structural
transformation in from low value chain products to higher value chain products

mismatch between youth aspiration and their perception of farming as a
profession, which translates to developing negative attitudes towards
agriculture as a profession. According to Sanginga, (2015), “even with growing opportunity,

those who have gone through years of education with high hopes and expectation
(CADDP, policy brief 2013).
