You must find it for yourself. The first step is one of the most difficult, accepting your past and learning to let go of what you cannot control. Normally, people hold onto their pasts as a way to feel secure with their memories. They don’t want to forget. However, when one holds onto their past, all of the hardships and negative aspects stay along with the memories. Everyone needs to learn to accept what has happened to them, not set aside bad memoriesjust for them to haunt them later. Accepting things in your life is a key factor to achieving happiness. Letting go of what you cannot control is equally important. eople waste countless time and energy worrying about other’s lives and what they do. For the most part, no one person has control over another. There is absolutely no sense in worrying about something that you can’t change. Take control over your own life and focus on what you need to be doing, not others. When coming across something that you don’t agree with, just stop. Take a second, breathe. Remind yourself that the constant negativity going on in your mind is hurting no one but yourself. Its not going to change people’s minds, but will efinitely change yours, and not for the better.
Take other peopl‚s mistakes and use them as reminders of what you don’t want to end up doing. Construct them into useful materials to help shape your mind set and then move forward. Step two goes hand in hand with the first one, turning your mistakes into lessons. This step is vital in obtaining a positive outlook. Don’t hold onto mistakes, morph them into a lesson for yourself. For example, let’s say that you go out with your friends and stay out all weekend instead of studying and then failed your chemistry test the following Monday morning. Typical eenage mishap, but why set yourself up for failure?
Yes, you made a mistake, so learn from it! The problem here is obvious, so fix it. There are simple steps to turning your mistakes into lessons, so don’t be lazy and go for it. Something that is important to remember for this, as well as everyday life, is to try to keep a positive outlook on things. When things start going awry, it’s not the end of the world! Like the saying goes, “It’s just a bad day, not a bad life”. Keep that in mind when anything and everything seems to be going wrong for you. That is the key factor in this, so when you do omething wrong, look at it as an opportunity to learn.
Figure out what you did wrong and find a way to do it right the next time. Don’t get all upset because what you did was wrong. It will all turn out okay! Also, never be afraid to ask someone for help. It’s normal to be embarrassed or shy, but don’t be so to the fact that you can’t turn to someone. If you’ve made a huge mistake or you’re just lost and can’t figure out what to do, ask someone. Go to someone that you trust, tell them your situation, and ask for advice. Never try to deal with overwhelming things all on your own. The next step is to not hold grudges, and forgive others, but especially yourself.
Forgive yourself for past mistakes, let go of thoughts of things that you could have done or shouldn’t have done. There’s nothing you can do to turn back time and change things. Forgive yourself. If you don’t, all of this regret and self-remorse is going to build up inside of you, which is without a doubt going to cause problems later. Those sorts Of feelings can lead to serious mental health issues, such as depression. Holding grudges is one of the fastest ways to age yourself, beware! Aside from that, what do you get accomplished from holding a grudge against someone? Nothing.
The only person you’re hurting is yourself. Cut that person out of your life and don’t look back. The Bible says that we must forgive one another and love thy neighbor. We should all try to follow this in our everyday lives. In the eighteen years I’ve been on this earth, I’ve learned that the best thing you can do is learn to forgive people for their mistakes, but never forget what they did. Be cautious and always keep in mind that we are all just human, we make mistakes all the time. However, some are more forgivable than others. Whenever you have doubts about someone, trust your instinct.
That’s normally the best way to Forgiveness is something that most people learn with time and age. believe this is one aspect of life that people will learn best from their own personal experiences, rather than someone telling them. Now the fourth step is one that many people are raised to know, unfortunately, many are not. Appreciate and be thankful for the things that you do have; don’t fret over simple wants. The sooner people learn this, the better off they will be. It’s difficult to have friends and/or family who have more than you, or something that you want but can’t have, but like they say, money can’t buy happiness!
That saying is clich©, but so true. We all need to be thankful for what we do have, no matter how big or small, because there are always going to be others out there who have practically nothing at all. No one is ever going to have absolutely everything they want in life. The world would be a pitiful, not to mention boring, place. Simple wants are nothing to waste time fretting over when you have so many other things to be happy about. There are people that get things without effort, but nine times out often they aren’t very happy.
Those who work for what they want are the ones who understand the value of a dollar and are typically better off. Charity also goes along with this. Charity isn’t just about donating money or food to the local food bank. There are countless things you can do to help out other people, even for free! There’s no excuse why the average person isn’t doing some sort of charity. Just giving someone a ride to work or picking up the bill at lunch is a nice gesture that will be appreciated. Helping other people out, especially the less fortunate, is going to make you feel so good.
Also, it will make you realize how thankful you really should be for the things that you do have. The fifth and final step is that no matter what your age, always set realistic goals for yourself and work hard to achieve them. This step is important in obtaining happiness because no matter what age we are, we all need to be striving to be better than the person We were the day before. We all need something to strive for, something to look forward to. It is crucially important hat when we wake up in the morning, we know that we have a purpose on this earth and that we are worth something.
Take notice that said “realistic” goals. For example, don’t say that you plan on climbing Mount Everest whenever you’ve never hiked an actual mountain before. It’s encouraged to have big dreams for yourself, but don’t set yourself up for failure. It’s healthy to want to achieve great things, however it is equally as important that you set goals that you are capable of completing. But if you truly want something, go for it! Don’t allow anyone to hold you back from getting what you want out of life. It’s your life, do whatever you want with it.
From my personal experiences, these five steps are the stepping stones to accomplishing true happiness. Like I said before, there’s always going to be something or someone that will take it away for awhile, but the goal is to live a happy life overall. Achieving these steps are going to take time and lots of effort. You’re not going to get it perfect on the first try, but youVe got all kinds of time. Encourage yourself and don’t give up. Keep the ultimate goal in mind, for you to be happy. This is for no one but yourself. Follow these steps and you’ll get there!
