The Han Dynasty lasted over 400 years from 206 B. C. E. to 220 C.
E. China enjoyed a true Golden Age under the Han. Throughout its years, Han has made achievements in warfare, government, agriculture, industry, art, medicine, and science.
These achievements have soon led something positive that changed the lives of many for the better. The Golden Age provided China long stability and wealth. Under the Han Empire, China expanded its union vastly. Many achievements have been made that led to the Han Dynasty to be known as the Golden Age.Three of the many achievements made are, utilizing Confucius’ ideas, creation and trade through the Silk Road, and improvements to the government.
Exploiting Confucius’ ideas balanced out the rich and the poor. The creation of the Silk Road simplified and advanced many lives. It was the agriculture basis of economy. Expansion of the Chinese empire lead to enhancement in government. All of these achievements have became an important contribution to the flourishing epoch.
The Silk Road served as an important communication link between cultures and economies.During the time of the Han Dynasty (206 BCE-220 CE), this five-thousand-mile stretch of trade routes was possibly the world’s first “Internet. ” According to document one, Han’s expansion of trade has increased immensely from the Silk Road. Xian, the capital city of the Tang Dynasty is regarded as the starting point of the Silk Road.
The Silk Road stretched to today’s Turkey. It is the road connection and trade passageway between China and Middle and West Asia and even Europe. Because of how convenient and easy this made for communication between different regions, it soon led to a growth in population. The Silk Road linked China to the Fertile Crescent in southwestern Asia.
Chinese silk goods were traded to the West and East along the Silk Road. Some goods were camels which was very appreciated, military equipment, gold and silver, semi-precious stones and glass items. Samarkand made glass which was especially valued due to its high quality. It was considered as luxury goods.
Other goods were skins, wool, cotton fabrics, gold embroidery, exotic fruits – watermelons, melons and peaches; fat-tailed sheep and hunting dogs, leopards and lions. Trade brought new ideas, new food, diverse cultures and religions.Along with a prosperous economy. The Silk Road was also used as protection from enemies. The Silk Road is the most well-known trading route of ancient Chinese civilization. Under the Hans, Confucianism became the official belief system of China. The Han Dynasty did benefit from Confucianism. Because of it, the Han Dynasty improved and established the system of ruling the land by morals and ethics, something that the Qin Dynasty has overlooked.
Based on document four, peasants were placed on a different level rather than normally being placed on the very bottom.Peasants were put above soldiers. Thus, improvement has been made. It shows that society is now balanced out. They also setup a Civil Service Exam based on Confucianism. This exam was required to enter service in the government.
Officials were chosen by ability and knowledge now rather than social status. They must pass an intensive test on five of the classic writings. These civil servants were evaluated every three years and were either promoted or demoted. The Confucian system of government was used in China for most of the last 2000 years.
Despite the good and the bad effects of Confucianism, it has been an important part in shaping the history of China. Being in power for over four-hundred years, it is only reasonable to expect that the Han dynasty has left some very important legacies to China and to the world. It was a dynasty that characterized triumph and in turn it brought accomplishments that have impacted the world not only in the past but also in the present. It was an era of glory and brilliance as it brought China into new heights, politically, socially and militarily.
