he Industrialization period was the late 1800s and early 1900s. With the new machines invented, food was safer but people were being put out of jobs by machines and inventions.

Laissez faire was a law that allowed businesses to operate without the government stepping in, big business paid their employees low wages and made them work 12 hour days. Railroads allowed big companies to get their product all over the country. City life in the late 1800s and early 1900s was over crowded with no running water and filthy, but you lived closer to your job and there was tons of entertainment. Immigrants during the industrialization were pulled to the U.S. for a better life, opportunities for land, tales of riches, acceptance, and work. They were pushed out of their country because of overpopulation, no food, no work, and religious persecution.             The progressive era.

During the progressive era the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments were passed. The 13th amendment ended slavery, the 14th gave african americans citizenship, and the 15th gave them the right to vote.  The 18th amendment banned any purchase, selling and transporting of alcohol. The 19th amendment gave women the right to vote. The meat inspection act was federal inspections of factories and meat production. The antitrust laws outlawed big businesses taking advantage of small businesses, manoplies. The Plessy vs. Ferguson case was when segregation became legal.

The muckrakers were Lincoln Steffens, Jacob Riis, and Upton Sinclair, they fought for reforms by making the living conditions and working conditions more publicly known.    Imperialism. The Spanish American war lasted from april to august, 460 americans died in the war, 5200 americans die from disease.  They were unprepared, poorly trained, and ill equipped. Yellow fever and malaria were big problems during the Spanish American war. The outcome of the war was Cuba got its independence, America becomes a world power, and American gained Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines. USS Maine explodes, the yellow journalists balme spain and call for war.

America bought Alaska for 7.2 billion dollars, it was used for expansion, raw materials, resources, and access to Europe. America took over Hawaii, it was used for no tax on sugarcane products, access to seaports, expansion, and resources.

  WWI. Wilson’s 14 points were, 1. No secret treaties, 2. International seas shall be free to navigate to during peace and war, 3. Removal of economic barriers related to trade, 4. Worldwide reduction of armies, 5. Independence for colonies, 6.

The removal of armed forces from Russia, 7. The removal of armed forces from Belgium, 8. French territory should be freed and restored, including Alsace-Lorraine, 9. The borders of Italy will be established; all Italians will be within the country of Italy, 10.

Austria-Hungary will continue to be independent, 11. Serbia, Montenegro, and Romania will become independent, 12. Creation of n independent Turkey, 13. Poland will become independent,  14. A league of nations will be formed.    1920s.  Jazz music was invented in the 1920s.

Automobiles were made in the 1920s and because automobiles were made so were hotels, diners, and highways. Flappers were women of the 1920s who wore short dresses and skirts, bright colored scarfs, ect.
