The Hard Rock Cafe used a theme that catered to a very large portion of the world. Rock and Roll, this theme or way of life for some was erupting big. This was assisted by people like the Beatles, Elvis and Buddy Holly. Eric Clapton was first icon to lay his imprint within the franchise, by leaving an un-signed guitar over his regular seat to lay claim to that spot. The Hard Rock Cafe was able to capitalize on this and incorporate this into the cafe themes. Therefore there services and product design was focused on the music memorabilia. The music memorabilia fell in place with the original theme of eclectic decor.

This was in addition to their great food. When you think of management within the Hard Rock Cafe Corp. most probably think that it had to be a nightmare. The growth of the Hard Rock Cafe has grown tremendously since 1971. Now it is treated as a corporation not just a cafe. There is now a cafe training program in place to insure that their staff can provide the service needed to their guests. There are several components to their training. There is in-depth training in all areas of the business: kitchen, service, bar, retail, financial, group sales & marketing, operations management and administration functions.

There is also 5-8 weeks of training in a certified training store and even a Rock 101 course available on-line. This is very detailed training that is provided to their staff to ensure that the guests of Hard Rock Cafe receive the very best services and product. The Hard Rock Cafe continues to collect memorabilia to place on display for their customers to see. This provides something new for all of their customers whether they are new or returning ones. This provides them with the Hard Rock Cafe experience that has come to be expected from them. Location is the key to their success.

They have been winning this strategy for decades. This is grossly because 70% of Hard Rock’s customers are tourists. This has helped them grow from the one London Cafe to 110 cafes in 41 different countries. They are among the top tourist attractions. Thus the reason you probably can’t find a Hard Rock Cafe in my home town of Wichita Falls, TX. Layout of their establishments can be dictated by where it is built. But overall each of the establishments need to have the capabilities to support food serving, drinks, customer service and the memorabilia. The food service section requires most of the support nd layout. There is the kitchen, food storage area, food serving area, dining area and most of all the staff to operate those areas. The staff will consist of cooks, assistant cooks, waiting staff, and so on. The layout of the cafes will have to incorporate all of these factors and allow them to co-mingle and at sometimes support each other. The Hard Rock Cafe Corp has proven that their supply chain management is working. The Hard Rock Cafe continues to increase their chain by branching out. This maximizes the customer value and have achieve a sustainable competitive advantage.

The supply chain activities cover things like product development, sourcing, production and logistics. But there should be a system in place to coordinate all of these activities between the multiple locations. In my current job in the Army, we call this reach back. I believe the inventory management ties in with the supply chain management. In order to manage the supply chain you must have a great inventory management. This will allow for the supply process to run smoothly and in turn the cafes will continue to provide the service and supplies that the customers have grown to love.

Scheduling is the one job within the Hard Rock Cafe that I would dread to have the responsibility for. The Hard Rock Cafe employees over 20,000 people. Yes I know there isn’t just one person handling all of the scheduling issues throughout the Hard Rock Cafe Corporation. The responsibilities are delegated down to managers that have received the necessary training. Many factors are play a role into the scheduling. This brings us back to the production formula. Since this a business and there is aspect of making money.

The output of product and the income will have to out weight the labor, material, energy and miscellaneous items. Maintenance will need to be included into all of these factors that have been covered throughout this paper. Maintenance is the back bone of most corporations. Without maintenance everything would job the moment it was broken. Maintenance doesn’t just mean to fix something the moment it is broken. Maintenance covers preventive maintenance as well. Simply put if you maintain your equipment, you won’t have to repair it. In return the output of product will be higher than the labor requirements.
