Relationship Between Climate Change and Migration Essay

Relationship between Climate Change and Migration There are many ways which people might be displaced or compelled to migrate because of climate change and extreme weather. Rapid – onset events include hurricane and floods which lead to displaced people temporarily. Drought and desertification are called slower – onset events.

Despite slower – onset events are a gradual effect of humankind; it can become more dangerous for a long time for environmental and humankind. Droughts have already affected millions of human life in the world. Leighton (2010) According to Steiner (2011) climate disasters annually displace of millions of people.A preventative approach is compelled prepared . Barrett &Webber (2009) argued that the implication of climate change for migration is concerned with the international community, and the adequacy of available organizational to mange increased emigrant of people which do not influence the expansion and stabilization of the host population. Recently, the problems are highlighted by a number of people that reveal changes in big continents for example, Africa and Asia.

It is difficult to distinguish possible instinctive and design adjustment to decrease exposure to environmental change.Brown (2008) said at the beginning 1990 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) suggested that humans might be the greatest victims especially displaced people by climate change, shoreline erosion and lack agriculture which caused millions of people to be displaced . So far, series reports have suggested that the environment deteriorates especially because of climate change.

In the middle of 1990s, 25 million people were displaced by a number of dangerous environmental events such as, pollution, desertification, and droughts. This essay will discuss three main points .Firstly, climate change . Secondly, desertification and climate change . Thirdly, flooding and climate change . Finally, Climate change to force mass migration.

Climate change is with our lives. Ten years ago, it was a phenomenon but now the future is apparent to see in the disappearing Arctic ice in Canada and extremely deadly weather in America and South Asia. In addition, it causes melting Ice Mountains and hot weather. Pearce (2006) Pearce (2006) said Scientists reveal that the Earth is now warmer than more than 1000 years before, just three warmest years since 1998.According to Study of the thermal inertia of the Ocean argued that hot climate change is occurring. According to Pearce (2006) “global warming caused by human activities and there are growing fears for feedbacks will accelerate this warming”. Humans are responsible for changing by burning remains and natural gases. It is clear that burning remains emit billions of tons of carbon dioxide annually.

In spite of the change might begin with the reduction of agriculture. During a century Scientific reality is still looking for the physics of the effect greenhouse .The greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide (Co2) which is a reflection of the sun’s radiation . It has piled up for a long period time and with other man-made greenhouse gases for example, methane and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). If the ratio of carbon dioxide is raised, it will increase atmospheric carbon dioxide that will definitely be adequate to increase world temperatures by approximately 2°C to 5°C. Pearce (2006) Warming is going to bring other non- forecast changes. It is causing to melt Ice Mountain, rain and snow abundant some rivers, although other rivers are evaporated and now are empty.Diseases have spread.

Grow crops in some places are faster than in some place which is a huge reduction in production of disease and drought . Destructive hurricanes are becoming more happening annually and melting Arctic Ice is becoming faster . Pearce (2006) According to the IPCC, the Earth wants to urgently reduce energy usage and use alternative non-carbon fuels such as, wind, solar, tidal, wave and a potential nuclear power. In addition, promoting provide non-carbon fuels which use new methods to boost power such as hydrogen fuel cells for cars.

Pearce (2006) .Further evidence of climate change can be seen in desertification. According to Adeel (2006)” desertification is one of the most pressing global environmental challenges of our time, threatening to reverse the gains in sustainable development that we have seen emerge in many parts of the world”. Political marginalization of the dry –land poor exacerbate the impact of desertification, by the slow development in health, education and agriculture. Desertification goes to extreme effects on non-dry land . Apparent phenomena is dust storms especially, the entire Northern hemisphere is affected by Sahara and Gobi deserts .Adeel(2006) According to Adeel (2006) “desertification is directly linked to downstream flooding, impairment of global carbon sequestration capacity and global climate change”. This could affect nature and humankind for instance, over the next ten years estimate that 50 million people will be displaced by desertification .

It is clear that it cannot be successful as a world community to solve this issue . At the same time the proportion of desertification on the land has daily increased. Adeel (2006). A further change in the climate change can be seen in increased flooding.

The floods in Thailand caused to people’s livelihoods and destruction their houses and properties . More than 2. 5million people across the nation suffered by flooding.

A large number of people are displaced overnight. This phenomenon extended since late July which had damage 30 places in the North and Northeast, including Bangkok . In Bangkok, approximately 36 areas destroyed by the floods . In some places the level of floodwater were rose up to three meters . Since World War two there was the biggest displaced in the country because of massive displacement over 100,000 people .

There was a large number of flood victims who went to Bangkok and lived there Before the floods reached Bangkok. Tansubhapol (2011) According to the UK’s Foresight Report on Migration and Global Environmental Change “the impact of environmental change on migration will increase in the future “People’s maintains are threatened by climate change. It also mentioned another important issue which is people who impact the disaster which it might need money to move. However, it could be difficult to move due to strong disasters. Tansubhapol (2011). In addition, climate change has forced mass migration .Over the next 50 years, climate change will displace a billion of people on the Earth. According to Christian aid predicts report that depends on UN population “large –scale development projects and widespread environmental deterioration will combine to make life unsupportable for hundreds of millions of people, mostly in the Sahara belt, south Asia and the Middle East”.

Vidal (2007) A large number of people leave their houses due to climate change. John Davison (cited in Vidal (2007)) argued that “Forced migration is now the most urgent threat facing poor nations”.Nowadays, natural hazards and expandable projects are causing displacement of approximately 155 million people. It is expected that many people could be affected by lack water, flooding and destruction agriculture. Vidal (2007).

According to Brown (2008) by 2099, the Earth is become warmer than now. By 2050, huge parts of the world are predicted to turn drier about 8% . By 2100, the ratio of extreme drought of the Earth will be predicted to rise from 1% to 30%. The amount of rain will change in some places becoming more extreme. Changing the amount of rain causes disasters for example, droughts, storms and floods .

It is predicted that amount of rainfall will increase up to 20% on Eastern Indian and Bangladesh. In contrast, it is expected that amount of rainfall will decrease up to 10% in sub-Saharan Africa. In conclusion, climate change driven people to migrate due to natural disasters . It is clear climate change is set to continue. Climate change melts glaciers and hot storms which responsible for many disasters on the Earth.

Scientists reveal that now Earth more warmer than before . Global warming caused by human activities . The ratio of gases at the atmosphere level are increased that bring warmth to the Earth. Some rivers become overflow and some rivers evaporate now emptying. Nowadays, the nature of agriculture has changed in different places. Increasing natural hazards happen in the world such as, hurricanes, droughts, floods and desertification.

Desertification is the most serious hazards which hit the world. It causes displacement of billions of people. Floods are destroying houses, properties, agriculture for floods victims . It is also cause displaced millions of people. Scientists predicate that people’s displacement will be increased at the end of 21st century by environmental events.

These natural hazards will cause to changing a huge part of Earth to the dry-land and drought. The rainfall pattern will change in some places, again the amount of rain which cause to flooding and some place no-rain causing drought. It can be seen that climate change brings disasters to humankind. Annually, many people are moved form their own houses and lands to another places in the same county or as refugee in another countries. Governments should try to prevent these natural hazards and also people in another place which, is not taken floods, should help flood victims.
