The Youth Sports Nonprofit Organization Essay

Writing an effective business plan is a necessity when looking for financiers for a nonprofit or profit organization. An effective business plan allows the owner to perfect the business model and attract any investors to help launch the business. (Jones, 2007) A business plan contains an executive summary, background information on the company, strategies and resources necessary to function and organize the business model, and a timeline for the business to meet or exceed expectations.

The Youth Sports Nonprofit Organization has a strong business plan and includes each of the following. The Youth Sports Nonprofit Organization has researched information from the demographics of the area they are looking to provide youth sports services. Their purpose is to give urban children the opportunity to participate in activities that would keep them involved in positive experiences. The plan has included the fiscal requirement for the first three years and how they plan on achieving it.

Organization of the sports programs that will be implemented have been planned for an operating year. The ability to use the school system to promote the program for the children who have not participated in organized activities is a good way to get them involved. Also, giving the teachers the opportunity to be involved is a good way to help recruit children for the program. A child may want to work with their favorite teacher. Also, allowing any college student who participates in coaching to receive credits for their school can also gain upport for the system. These college students can learn how to work well with the children, especially if they intend to become coaches themselves or just work with children in general. The implementation of the system also help keep the program afloat by using the members of the community to build support from the rest of the community as well as making sure the system is flowing properly. And having a separate business group handle the finances for the organization would not overload the Program Services Group with multiple responsibilities.

According to Jones (2007), writing a successful Executive Summary involves including the business model, mission, goals, and finances. The Executive Summary has stated each of these key points which made reading the rest of the business plan understandable. The staffing for the program is not only strength for the program, it is also a weakness. Some of the people may not be qualified to coach children; therefore they would have to implement training programs for anyone who would want to be a coach or referee. Without the proper qualifications, there could be problems that may occur.

However, if some of these people have a degree in Exercise Science or a certification for personal training by the NASM-BOC, they would have the proper education to be able to properly coach the children in these sports. These trained individuals would already know that children’s submaximal oxygen demand is higher than adults which means it is easier for them to experience fatigue when training them too hard. (Clark et al, 2012) This would mean the children would need frequent breaks for rest and water as opposed to adults.

The experience of the individuals is a necessity and recruiting some teachers to be the coaches for the children is a possible hindrance to the success of the program because if the professionals are not properly trained in working with children, they could cause serious injury. And if a parent’s child becomes injured through negligence, then they would most likely take their child out of the sports program. The opportunities provided by this organization have a target customer base that will be growing within the first few years.

According to the research, they have realized that many children will be the target range that they begin servicing. According to Jones (2007), the organizational aspect of a business plan is supposed to include the marketing, materials management and operational, financial and human resources plans. I feel this business plan included each of these aspects because they have described the demographic they will be marketing to, the materials needed and who will be handling the operations of the sports programs, and the finances needed for each aspect of the Youth Sports Organization.

The possible threat contained within this business plan is the inclusion of businesses and corporations. Although they will be providing finances to help the organization with the maintenance of the fields, the uniforms for the children and other aspects necessary to maintain the program, they can eventually determine whether or not they want to receive some form of profits.

In this case, the nonprofit organization would have to become a for-profit organization. Also, if the intended number of children signed up for the program is not met they could attempt to renegotiate their responsibility in the sponsorship. This may call for parents to pay more signup fees. And since this is for an urban demographic, the parents may not be able to meet a higher financial requirement. This could be damaging to the nonprofit organization.

Although there are threats and weaknesses contained within this business plan, it allows the business model of the organization to be reworked and mastered. This business plan is still a strong business plan containing all the necessary information to determine the intended direction of the company. The timeline has been explained, the executive summary has been given, the company background is explained, and all the necessary information regarding the resources and functions of the business. Although there may be some work done, this business plan is still a very effective business plan.
