Understanding to how come people do not

Understanding the meaning of foodporn is essential as it is one of the most used hashtags on Instagram by individuals posting photographs of their meals. 
Breaking down the term: porn is referred to as a medium that gives an individual pleasure by just looking at images and videos of sexual content; ergo the term foodporn refers to photographs of foods that are extremely appealing which then gives birth to the term foodgasm which is an amalgamation of food and orgasms implying that the food looks so good and tastes so good that its as good as sex. 
Which is strange, considering how most people are not very comfortable talking about sex openly let alone on a social platform for anyone and everyone to see. 
Which then stems to the question as to how come people do not mind associating their food with ‘porn’ which is further stigmatised in society? This then highlights the culture of trends. 
With technology at a boom and most people around the globe having access to smartphones, the trend is to post photographs of food with catchy hashtags so as to bring in more viewers and followers. 
To support this statement or rather to theorise the above statement is the theory of fashion by German Sociologist and Philosopher, Georg Simmel. 
This theory has been extremely insightful to sociological understanding as one can now perceive how the capitalist industries feed off mass culture churning it into popular culture and in some cases high culture. 
Simmel highlights dualism in his fashion theory and mentions how it is a dichotomised perception of society with two predispositions i.e. on the one hand there is generalisation and on the other there is specialisation. Individuals have this want to adapt into society but also delineate away from all of societal demands. 
Those who imitate (in this research paper – trends) sustain the predisposition of generalisation, as imitation is a rather easier way for individuals to shun away the responsibility of creativity. They can adjust into social situations and society without having to worry about making any choices. 
But when you look at the flip-side, individuals also want this blanket of individuality, they want to specialise because imitation can also be widely frowned upon at most times. 
Fashion gives individuals the chance to imitate as well as differentiate; ergo relating the dualism part of Simmel’s theory on fashion, a key point is to look at how people try to dualise this foodporn trend. Individuals try to specialise by either cooking up something different or eating something rare but by doing so they are falling into compartment of generalisation – with 300 million photographs of food just on one social platform, Instagram. 
Everyone wants to fit in and when they do they also want to stand out and so individuals are in this never-ending loop against themselves and the forever changing trends and the only party that is advantaging from this is the capitalist market.
