Rudy Essay By: Nicole Gardner In the movie “ Rudy” there were six values that Rudy followed. The values were Responsibility, Relationships, Compassion, Courage, Achievement, and Recognition. Rudy needed all these values to complete his goal of playing football and going to Notre Dame. There are many ways he showed all of these values throughout the movie. Here are some examples of how the values are used in the movie. Responsibility is one of the values that is in the movie “Rudy”. Rudy has to show a lot of responsibility to get to Notre Dame and into the football team.
One of the ways Rudy shows responsibility is by keeping up with his grades to make sure he gets into Notre Dame. He also shows responsibility in this movie by also keeping up with his studies to go to college. Another way Rudy showed responsibility was by showing up for the job that he had at college everyday. Through doing all of this he showed responsibility but he also needed other values. The second value was relationships. Rudy had to make some relationship in his journey to get to Notre Dame and the football team.
These relationships that he gained helped him with encouragement to keep going. One of his relationships was with his friend Pete from the mill, Pete always believed in his dream of going to Notre Dame. Another one of his relationships was with D-Bob who became his tutor and Rudy became his wingman. These relationships helped him with encouragement to keep going on his goal to get to Notre Dame and play for the Irish. He still has more values that he needs though. Compassion was the third value and it was a big one in the movie.
For Rudy one of the main strongest compassions that he had was with the black guy that he works with in the school. The black guy showed compassion to Rudy by giving Rudy a blanket and a key on the cot for him. Another one of the ways he was showed compassion was when he showed his dad that he got into college and his dad hugged him. Most of the compassion he was showed came in little doses but it helped him along. There are a couple more values that Rudy still needs though. Another major value in the movie was courage. There were many ways that Rudy showed courage.
One of the ways was him going to the football practices even though he was smaller than everyone else. Another way was him leaving home to go to college even though he had nothing. The third way was when he was five that he would rush at the passer even though he was small. The last way was the entire team giving up their place to dress for Rudy. These all were ways Rudy had courage but there are still two more values to go. The second to last value was achievement. Rudy showed achievement by getting in to Notre Dame and achieving his dream of going to college.
He also showed achievement by winning his football game and being carried of the field. Another way he showed achievement was by getting good grades through out the quarter. These are the ways that Rudy showed achievement. There is one final value that Rudy needed. The final value that was in the movie Rudy was recognition. One of the ways Rudy was showed recognition was his dad telling everyone in the mill on the speaker that Rudy is going to college. Another way he was showed recognition was the coach saying “It’s a pleasure” to Rudy for having him on the team.
The third way was the whole team clapping for Rudy when he came back to practice. The last way he was showed recognition was when the entire stadium was chanting his name. In all these six values helped Rudy get into Notre Dame and onto the football team. Most sports movies like this show all of these values but they do also relate to being out in the real world or in a workplace. If anything these values help with a social life and to make friends. These are key values that we all need. For Rudy it certainly helped him.
