When people think about
what they have inherited from their parents the first thing they think about is
physical features, curly hair or a similar shaped nose, but I’ve inherited a
lot more: a passion for learning, an unquenchable curiosity and dedication to
hard work, all of which has served me well throughout my academic career,
influencing my early fascination of the workings of life.
I
discovered that the human body is outstanding and is not just limited to one
system. My love of science is one
of my many reasons for choosing this degree. I appreciate a challenge
especially towards a rewarding objective, for example helping someone achieve
their optimum health and although I am aware of the hardship that can be involved
in this career, I am also aware of the rewards that can be received,
highlighted by many professionals I have spoken to on a personal level

My
fondness of the sciences influenced the selection of my Leaving Certificate
choices. The subjects of biology and chemistry have helped develop both my
interest and knowledge surrounding the being. Additionally, maths has provided
the relevant aid to hone my analytical and problem-solving skills which in turn
helps me to work logically. Thus, good time management, self-motivated study
skills and ability to cope with intensity of the complex nature of each topic

I
am currently in the process of finalising a placement visit to my local
hospital which I have organised for spring. I expect to be able to observe the
day-to-day experience of medical professionals and what is entails in ensuring
that the hospital and its staff are working together coherently to safeguard the
patients. Personally, I cannot wait for this opportunity as I have confidence
that this insight will stretch my knowledge, provide me with a better understanding
of the experience for those in the medical field and suggest what is required
of me in the future
Additionally. I enjoy immersing myself in a wide range
of science related journals as I often crave new ways outside an academic zone
to develop my scientific knowledge. I enjoy watching documentaries and reading
the works of experienced professionals as it helps nurture my already blossoming
fascination with the human body, and the promotion of health.
